We had an encounter with one of the new Park Rangers who was not very
happy that some of us had unloaded on the road. She was a bit upset at
first, but I talked with her a while and we came to an understanding...
which is good, because it would have be $225 ticket for every quad
outside the gate. Turns out she is a good friend of Glenn Myers and
she helped layout and build the Kentuk Trail System for them. I told
her who we were and a little about our club. I gave her Tony's name
and gave her name to Tony and I know he talked with her for a while as
well. We talked about the parking area being full and maybe
designating an "unloading" area inside where folks could pull in and
unload quads and then park outside if necessary. We talked about
helping the rangers build an unloading ramp and the club perhaps
helping maintain the trail. (I personally would help with this). She
said she really liked the Cheaha folks working with them to help
maintain the trail. We need to remind our whole club that riding the
power lines, taking cutoffs between trails, and riding in not
designated areas is illegal. I think a few of our folks got tickets
from riding the power lines. I don't think anyone was being
destructive, but perhaps just did not realize we HAVE to stay on the
trail. There were folks there that were not in our group that had been
caught off the trail as well and I think the rangers were getting
aggrevated, so they started writing tickets. I think it would be a good
thing if our club would help maintain the bankhead trail system. I
think we can do as they want with the roads and unloading area, we just
need to know that is what we have to do.
