Super turn out, super ride, super food, and 50+ super members, with kids running everywhere -- what better day could you ask for!!! Weather was perfect with an overcast and no dust. This time it's thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Tony Kirk for the hotdogs, chili, chips, and all the trimmings. Tony, you done it again, only this time he brought hi own "home-cook" to help. Thank you, Janet, next time we want to see you on the trails with us. Hey Janet, here's a great idea. We have a young lady you could ride with. She knows the trails very well, has a firm record of the ground work, does under-graduate work in fields such as "Stump Study" and has mapped out short cuts for emergency personnel, just in case of need. She is a very diversified lady. She has experience in the handling of different makes and models of ATVs and has helped the Dept. of Transportation with crash studies of D.O.T. approved helmets. Janet, I can promise you she could ride you all the way to the end of the trails, and do it safely!!! **NOTE: Lisa Abrams, we're all blessed that your injuries were not serious at saturday's kid's ride!!! We love you!!!!! ---Butch Whitehead (Club Secretary)

Well let me start out by saying thanks for all who helped put on another great ride for the Shoals ATV Riders. Saturday morning started early with most making sure all gear was packed and loaded and then breakfast. Most met at the K-mart parking lot and then a convoy to Bankhead AL. Once there everyone unloaded and we had a short meeting. We went over upcoming club rides and covered safety. A group pitcher of the kids was taken and off to the trails we went, 50 ATV riders. I was about 9 miles out on the trail and heard what we all dread to hear over the talk-about. A call for help came over the radio. I need help. I stopped and couldnt hear everything that was being said. I was the leader of the first group out and by the time my group got back to the rally point Lisa had already be taken to the hospital by ambulance. I felt bad that Lisa had a crash but I was told she would be all right. I went over and looked at the ATV she had been riding and it looked ok, maybe a busted tire and some front end damage. I was told she had hit a cut off stump with one of her front tires and it made her loose control throwing her 35 to 45 feet. Lisa did have on her safety gear! Thanks for all who helped with Lisas crash and got her medical attention as fast as they did. I only know of two other people that had to have first aid. One for a bug in his eye, another with some thorns in his hand. Back to the good stuff, the hot dogs, chili and chips were a big hit with everyone. My crew rode 43 miles and we also got off the ATV a few times and went exploring into the woods. Once the afternoon was just about over a few had to have another hot dog before the ride home.
Hey, if you dont have a club hat or T-shirt get one, they look really cool. Once again thanks to everyone that came out to the ride and most of all thanks to the club officers that worked so hard to make this another great ride. I know for a few it was their first ride with the club and they said they would be back for the next ride.
Sincerely, Mike Shipman
