Patti's 1880 settlement - AWESOME Pork Chops

The weekend of Sept. 27-29, 2002 was a great weekend for riding with the Shoals ATV Riders. We headed out for LBL. Once at the park in the KY state everyone checked into the lodge, cabins and or campground. That Friday afternoon we all meet up at turkey bay off road riding area and set out on and afternoon of atv riding and exploring. We rode till late that afternoon. A few later than others it was so much fun Butch Whitehead and a few could not be found when we got back to the parking area. But a short time later Butch and his crew came riding up. They looked like kids that had found a new toy. Everyone loaded up and went to the lodge for dinner. Well, me and my son stayed at Turkey Bay to eat with some friends we had met at the camp site. They had made some home made beef Chile and we were invited to eat with them. Everyone enjoyed the event and talked about tomorrows ride with great expiations of riding all day on the LBL trails. Saturday morning we all met back at Turkey Bay and started getting ready for a full day of riding. As everybody checked out their ATV's we had several other ATVers come over and ask to ride with us because the had seen this ride listed on the Shoals ATV riders web site and knew who we were by the club shirts most of us had on. We lined up 40 ATV's to hit the trails. We were off, as we drove threw the ATV rally point everyone seemed to stop what they were doing and looked at us as we passed. We had just about every kind of ATV that is made in our group. We were not in the woods long and we seemed to have a small problem. We had so many ATV's it was hard to keep everyone going. You could see ATV's up hills, down hills around curves, everywhere. So we came up with a plain to split up into groups. Once this was done everything got to moving. This made for a better ride for everyone. The ones that like to ride fast could. If you liked to ride slow you were in that group. If you liked to be Chandelled you rode with Shipman. It worked out great. During the course of the day we rode hills, creeks, in the river in the mud ,fast trails and hills. The weather was perfect. The rain the day before took care of the dust. It was a great day of riding. My crew rode 30 miles Saturday. I think a great time was had by all. My youngest son didn't get to ride but he swam, fished and rode jeeps and dune buggies all weekend. Sunday everyone was on their own. Several went site seeing as there is a lot to go and see in this park.
As for me ,thanks Shoals Riders for a fun filled weekend. I didn't hear of anyone getting hurt and that is something when we had 40 ATV's out on the trails for two days and how steep a lot of the area was of which we rode. If you didn't make the trip this ride you will not want to miss it next year.
So until next time keep those ATV running,
Mike Shipman Corinth, Mississippi Trail Captain
