Trace State Park Mar 2002
Trace State Park, Well the weather friday night was great. Only two from the shoals atv club
camped out. But we had a good time sitting around the camp fire. We got a good nights sleep,
well until 5am saturday morning. the wind started blowing really hard and at 530am the
thunder storm with heavy rain started. We drove into tupelo to eat and returned to camp to
find our tent over turned and most every thing in it wet. We were not going to give up.
We hooked up to the atv trailer and went around to the rally point at the trail head.
Several shoals atv riders were there standing under a shed to keep out of the rain. Some of
the riders were running late so this gave us even more of a reason to wait and see if the
rain would stop. the rain did stop just as the last of the riders pulled into the mud filled
parking lot. everyone unloaded and we hit the trails. 11 atv's in all. man the trails were
muddy this made the hills so slick to go up or down. We made our around a few trails, crossed
a few creeks and then the sun broke out. What a great day to ride. We rode hill after hill
but most everyone made it fine. Some of the 2x4 had to have some help but everyone pitched
in and made it a great ride for all. We even rode down by this large lake, some even got off
into the lake on their atv's. We found two sand pits with hills and jumps so we had to spend
a little time at each site to play. I only know of one wreck that was had. Chris Shipman on a
350 warrior tried to climb this muddy bank in a dirt pit but his atv went dead just before he
got to the top. He might have made it down ok but as he tried to roll back the back wheels
locked and the atv flipped over backwards throwing Chris off. The atv hit his leg. Steve
checked it out and he said it was ok. We rode a few more trails and then loaded up to
head home. We rode about 12 miles in all and see a lot of atv riders out on the trails. I
think a good time was had by all. Thanks Shoals ATV Riders for another great ride.
